Liquid sunscreen can travel in your cabin liquids bag. For US TSA screening, use containers of 100 ml (3.4 fl oz) or less, together in one quart-sized bag per passenger.
Check the formulation
Lotion, cream, gel and liquid sprays follow the liquids rule. A pump spray is not necessarily a pressurized aerosol. Check the label before applying aerosol requirements. For a solid stick or an unfamiliar formula, confirm its screening classification rather than treating every sunscreen as a liquid.
Larger containers and aerosols
For restricted medicinal and toiletry articles, including aerosol sunscreen, FAA limits each container to 0.5 kg (18 oz) or 500 ml (17 fl oz). The combined allowance per person is 2 kg (70 oz) or 2 L (68 fl oz). Count the other restricted toiletries too; these are not separate allowances for each product or suitcase.
Protect an aerosol’s release valve with its cap or another suitable guard. Padding alone does not replace valve protection. The FAA limit does not override the smaller TSA carry-on liquid limit.
Before departure
Check the container capacity, close it securely and use a leak-resistant pouch. Consult your airline for an unusual or hazardous product, and check destination authorities for any ingredient or import restrictions. This page does not establish rules for every country.
