Can You Bring Makeup on a Plane? Liquids and Powders

Yes. Sort your makeup by its form before packing for a US TSA checkpoint.

What goes in the liquids bag?

Liquid, cream and gel products—including foundation, mascara and lip gloss—belong in your liquids bag. Each container must be 100 ml (3.4 fl oz) or smaller; all must fit in one quart-sized bag per passenger.

What about solids and powders?

Solid lipstick and powder makeup do not use the liquids allowance. Powder containers over 12 oz / 350 ml must be presented separately for X-ray screening; officers may open them or conduct further checks. TSA suggests checking larger non-essential powders.

Pack your makeup kit

  1. Check each product’s form and container label, including minis.
  2. Keep liquid products together and easy to reach.
  3. Protect fragile palettes with padding and close lids securely.
  4. For aerosols or hazardous toiletries, check the separate FAA rules before placing larger containers in checked baggage.

These are US screening rules. Check other departure or transfer airports separately; a product’s small size does not guarantee clearance.
